I love stripes, but my success with creating jogless stripes is not always spot on. Here’s some specific striping reference links from TECHknitting — to help me not reinvent the wheel, but to become more satisfied with my work.
- For one or two round-high stripes worked in the round, using the same two or three colors throughout: barberpole (helix) method.
- For one round-high stripes where every round is a different color: the smoothed circle method.
- For stripes with designs in them (such as Fair Isle) worked in the round: the picture-frame method which disguises the ends of the rows, while allowing you to stay in pattern.
- For stripes which are three or more rounds high worked in the round, try stacking the color changes . (Here’s another imaged-based jogless stripes version with action shots —very helpful.)
- For traveling versus stationary stripes pros, cons, and how to’s, here’s an updated post with new pictures.
FYI, Grumperina has also blogged about helix stripes, multiple colors of stripes at once, and even knitting helical striped socks. Worth the photos.
